The 5500M Universal Communicator from Uplink, is perhaps one of the simplest universal communicators on the market, making it perfect for DIY applications. The wiring of the communicator is very well laid out and is capable of not only monitoring your alarm system but a great many other applications as well. The 5500M is powered by the system it is connected to, and comes with 4 inputs meaning you can have up to 4 triggers for various devices. For an alarm system, these triggers can be the bell circuit on your alarm or a programmable output set for a specific trigger. Additional devices can be as simple as giving you an alert on specific sensors, and as complex as full-on industrial system controls. The Uplink 5500M also includes 2 outputs allowing you to set up powered outgoing triggers for the attached devices. This can include keyswitch arming and disarming on all panels that support the feature.
Included in the Uplink 5500M are both a Verizon and AT&T sim card allowing the communicator to use whichever network provides you with the best coverage. This combined with Uplink’s customer phone app, gives you a self-monitoring and system control option that allows you access to your system no matter where you may be. The 5500M is a true universal communicator meaning any alarm system can use this device to report to both the end user and a Central Station. The only drawback is that the 5500M can only be triggered using the previously mentioned inputs, and is not capable of truly connecting to the “brain” of your alarm system. For that, you will want to check out the Uplink 5530M, which is able to connect to the keybus of select alarm systems to give a more integrated experience.Â
Getting the Uplink 5500M activated is a very simple process as well. The dual sim cards come pre-activated so that when you get your communicator connected to your system, all we have to do is connect your device to your Uplink service account. There will be a serial number on your new communicator and once you provide that to us, we handle the rest. If you are planning on activating service with another provider you will need to get with them on their specific process.Â
